CJW Medical Center once again participated in Relay For Life, a fun-filled event designed to celebrate cancer survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of 8 to 15 walkers all over the country gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated.
We had several teams participating in and raising funds for Relay For Life of Richmond South-Chesterfield, which was held on May 18 and 19, 2002 at James River High School, 3700 James River Road in Midlothian. The relay started at 11 a.m. on the 18th and ended at 8 a.m. on the 19th. CJW Medical Center was also a corporate sponsor of the event.
Our teams really came through this year, and ended up winning some pretty amazing awards for their outstanding fundraising efforts!
The awards are as follows:
3rd Place Fundraising (Individual): Karen Simon, CJW Inpatient Rehab Therapies Team, $1535
Top Fundraising Team: "Hunting For a Cure" CJW Inpatient Rehab Therapies Team, $11,536
Top Fundraising (Multiple Teams): CJW Medical Center, $19,842
Top Corporate Sponsor in the Region: CJW Medical Center
Overall Grand Total for James River Relay: $110,000
